With Little Wrens forest school

Fat hen farm works with Little wrens forest school to bring weekly play and stay forest school sessions, as well as wild wood birthday parties!
Little Wrens forest school aims to support children’s mental and physical health , providing support for their development through play and immersion in the great outdoors. Connection to nature is invaluable to boost self esteem, independence, confidence, resilience and the ability to manage and handle risk taking.
The sessions are run by Jacquie Gilchrist, a fully qualified level 3 Forest School Leader with an outdoor First Aid qualification, who has a passion for the outdoors. She has experience of working with children with additional needs, a background in Early Years and has recently achieved the Certificate in Therapeutic Skills for Outdoor Leaders.

Stay and play preschool sessions are best suited for competent walkers, although younger siblings are welcome along. Each session is child-led, with activity stations for sensory play and nature inspired crafts. We will be climbing on ropes, putting up tarpaulin shelters, fire lighting, using tools, as well as learning about the flora and fauna.

Looking for a birthday party that’s a bit different, do you have a child that loves the outdoors, creative play and nature, then a Forest school birthday party at Fat hen farm could be just what you are looking for! Parties can run for 2 to 3 hours, giving you use of the wooded areas, open spaces and opportunities to visit the animals too. A theme can be chosen to work with, like fairies, mini beasts and we have even done a bronze age party! Depending on the age of the children we can set up ropes, swings, hammocks, the mud kitchen, nature craft activities, tool use, fire lighting and finish off the session with cooking something on the fire!
